No that info is not correct. It was changed in patch 2.4.0.
Prior to patch 2.4.0 modders had hacked items called a Gem of Ease that is a Legendary Gem. This was modded to rank 2 billion and granted so much exp that everyone in the party went to near 10,000 paragon instantly. As of patch 2.4.0 Blizzard introduced a check when the game loads your save where any Legendary Gem above rank 150 gets reduced to 150 which now means no modder can grant a party massive amounts of exp.
Thus modders cannot corrupt your save anymore. What they can do is survive in a GR150, and the exp in that is very high but the exp earned would be the same if your could do a GR150 legit. So modders can come into your session and open up a GR150 and if you go in you will earn about 200 paragon points.not as much as 10,000 at least. So you can be safe in the knowledge that if a modder joins don't be scared, they cannot corrupt your save and the only way they can affect your character is by opening a GR150 and you manually enter it.simply do not or refuse the GR150. No problem.although I think you may find that there is no mention of these changes in the patch notes.can't remember if there was!

When we get seasons in the next patch it is rumoured we will use online only saves for them thus that kills modded gear in seasons at least. I hope that they add even further checks to the game when it loads our offline saves too to eradicate further modded gear.having the Legendary Gems reduced to rank 150 if modded was great but there are still other items that are insanely modded and can one shot kill things in a GR150.whilst it does not affect our characters anymore it is still annoying. We await more info from Blizzard on just how seasons will be implemented and what anti-cheating mechanisms they are putting in place.
The good thing is if it is online saves then that takes care of modding and duping in seasons but also means it will be purer that the PC version as PC players can bot to cheat.whilst consoles will not.
